About the album

Incesticide collects Nirvana recordings from different moments rather than presenting one unified studio session. Issued by Geffen in 1992 between Nevermind and In Utero, it includes singles, demos, BBC material, and covers of songs by Devo and The Vaselines. “Dive,” “Sliver,” and “Aneurysm” show the band’s compact attack, while the broadcast recordings reveal how quickly Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl could make an arrangement work. Butch Vig is part of the album’s production history, alongside the engineers and session contexts attached to the individual tracks. The fifteen-track CD feels official in its packaging but archival in its contents, which is why its rough changes of texture are valuable. It offers a view of Nirvana’s working sound before and around the breakthrough rather than a polished sequel to Nevermind.
