About the album

Mothership is Led Zeppelin’s two-disc compilation, released in 2007 as a later survey of the band’s Atlantic catalogue. It gathers familiar songs such as “Good Times Bad Times,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “Kashmir,” and “Stairway to Heaven” without trying to reproduce the sequence of any original album. Jimmy Page selected the programme and the set makes the group’s range easy to hear: blues-derived riffs, acoustic writing, long-form arrangements, and John Bonham’s unusually physical drumming. Robert Plant and John Paul Jones complete the core quartet. The compilation status matters. This is not a newly recorded Led Zeppelin album or a remastering claim by itself; it is a 2007 overview designed to place tracks from different eras in one package. The standard CD edition contains twenty-four tracks across two discs. A deluxe edition added a DVD of live performances; this copy has two discs.
