About the album
Nimrod is Green Day’s fifth studio album, a record that keeps the band’s three-chord directness while allowing the arrangements to slow down, widen, and change color. “Nice Guys Finish Last,” “Hitchin’ a Ride,” “Redundant,” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” occupy different corners of the same writing period. Producer Rob Cavallo helped the group give the songs more acoustic and orchestral space without turning them into another band. Reprise released Nimrod in 1997. The album’s eighteen-track CD includes short bursts beside longer departures, and “Good Riddance” became a lasting example of how far Green Day could move from its loudest template while keeping Billie Joe Armstrong’s plainspoken melody at the center.
