About the album
Demon Days is Gorillaz’s second album, a constructed world of cartoon identity, electronic rhythm, guest voices, and songs that move between pop, hip-hop, dub, and melancholy. Damon Albarn is the musical center, but the record’s character comes from its guests: De La Soul on “Feel Good Inc.,” Shaun Ryder on “Dare,” Ike Turner on “Every Planet We Reach Is Dead,” and children’s voices on “Dirty Harry.” Danger Mouse co-produced the album and helped give its digital surfaces a tight, uneasy pulse. Parlophone released the fifteen-track record in 2005. The sequence moves like a late-night broadcast, ending with “Don’t Get Lost in Heaven” and “Demon Days.” Its artwork and credits treat the fictional band as a full visual and musical cast, making the physical package part of the project’s world.
