About the album
Dizzy Up the Girl is the Goo Goo Dolls’ sixth studio album, the release that brought the band’s guitar-driven writing into a cleaner late-1990s pop-rock frame. “Iris,” “Slide,” and “Black Balloon” are built for different kinds of lift: a film soundtrack ballad, a bright single, and a darker song with a slow pull. Rob Cavallo produced the record, helping the group keep its rougher emotional edges inside polished arrangements. Warner Bros. issued the album in 1998. The thirteen-track CD shows a band balancing radio clarity with the grain of Robby Takac’s bass and John Rzeznik’s guitars.
