About the album
A Rush of Blood to the Head is Coldplay’s second studio album, expanding the debut’s intimate guitar songs into arrangements that can hold anxiety, grandeur, and silence at once. “Politik,” “In My Place,” “Clocks,” and “The Scientist” are built from different materials, but Chris Martin’s piano and voice keep returning the listener to the band’s emotional center. Ken Nelson produced the record, and the group’s playing remains visible inside the polished mix: Jonny Buckland’s guitar colors, Guy Berryman’s bass, and Will Champion’s drums are allowed to define the movement of each song. Parlophone released the eleven-track CD in 2002. The album’s title and sequence suggest pressure rising through a body, while the closing “Amsterdam” leaves the record with a sense of movement rather than a neat conclusion.
